We’re delighted to announce JD Eicher is returning to the Ross Farm this summer! The Youngstown, OH-born and bred musician released his latest album,"The Middle Distance," last May and has been busy touring to promote that record, as well as spending some time on the road with best-selling author Nicholas Sparks in support of Sparks’ latest novel, Two by Two. Eicher wrote an original song for the novel, and created an EP soundtrack to the author’s 20th novel. In fact, the novel, autographed by both the author and the musician, will be auctioned off at the Ross Farm Farm to Table Event on September 23. Eicher played at the Ross Farm’s first Autumn Acoustic Afternoon in October 2015, bringing along Christian Lopez and Butch Parnell to open that event. We’ve hosted some wonderful events here in 2017, including an ARTsee Happening, Colonial Day with the Oak Street 4th graders, live music, the 300th anniversary celebration picnic for the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, the very recent Farm to Table Event and more, but this event is very special to us! Come learn about the fascinating history of this site, which was home tos everal prominent figures who played critical roles in the founding and early years of the United States. Elias Boudinot, President of the Continental Congress, purchased the home in 1771. He sold the house to Henry Southard in 1785, and Southard did his part by serving in the House of Representatives for New Jersey from 1801 to 1821. His son Samuel, who attended the Brick Academy, later became the Governor, a Senator, and Secretary of the Navy. Indie rocker Mike Mains makes his return to the Ross Farm to kick off our season on Sunday, April 22! Mike played on the Tack House patio last year as the opener for JD Eicher, and we’re thrilled he’ll have his own set this spring with bandmate and wife Shannon Mains joining him! Hosted by Friends of the Boudinot-Southard-Ross Estate The historic Boudinot-Southard-Ross Estate is opening the property gates to celebrate and recognize important milestones of American military history from pre-revolutionary times to the present on Saturday, June 2. The exceptionally beautiful 50-acre site in Basking Ridge, known as the Ross Farm, is on the Federal and State Registers of Historic Places and only open to the public for special events. The Farm was home to the Boudinot and Southard families from the 1770s to the 1820s. Both made significant contributions to the founding and early years of our country through their military service. We will highlight their stories in addition to other veterans from New Jersey. Expressions of the “War at Home” will also be presented through the role “Victory Gardens” have played over time. Learn more about sacrifice, commitment, and the dedication communities have made while adapting to the stresses of war. Tour the grounds, speak with veterans about their experiences and consider a donation that will help fund two local veterans organizations. Caleb Caudle and his band are making a very special appearance at the Ross Farm on Saturday, June 2 at the conclusion of our Military History Event! Over the last decade, Connecticut native Stephen has performed more than 1,500 concerts around the world, raised thousands of dollars for causes close to his heart, been named Armed Forces Entertainer of the Year, and penned singles for artists like "American Idol" winner Nick Fradiani and the platinum-selling rock band O.A.R. Stephen's most recent writing work with legendary guitarist Robert Randolph led to a 2017 Grammy nomination for "Best Contemporary Blues Record."
